The California Gold Rush of 1849 & the building of the transcontinental railroads all began in California; so California is where the Chinese settled...besides, they still had thousands of miles of levies to build in the Sacramento Valley.

Since the majority of Chinese immigrants were miners during the California Gold Rush of 1849...they lived in mining camps, which were scattered thru-out the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, and the Pacific Coast Mountain ranges that spread along the current Mendocino/Shasta/Trinity counties.
