Where did the word 'please' come from?

The beginnings of the word come from a phrase such as, "would it bring you pleasure to ..." Pleasure in that context is only intended as asking if someone would LIKE to do something. The phrase has morphed into, "would you please ..." It's intended only as a manner of expressing courtesy and not wanting others to do something that they did not WANT to do.
