on the bottom of the at the front of the trans. there is a cover which is (commonly) called a dust cover (not trying to sound like a smart ass) remove the dust cover on the bottom to acess the converter bolts. you need to rent or buy a tool that wil help you turn the flywheel.
If it is a diesel, there is a small round access hole on the passenger side of the engine. Just above the access for the turning tool. The turning tool hole has a plastic plug in it, the t-conv hole is covered by a plate with two bolts.
The Torque Converter is part of the transmission, not part of the engine. The torque converter needs to come off with the transmission. You need to remove the starter to access the torque converter bolts/nuts and separate it from the flex plate. Besides loosing all of the fluid in the torque converter, you stand to damage converter seals and/or the pump if the converter isn't properly installed in the transmission.
Torque converter bolts No. Fly-wheel bolts YES.
In the transmission held on by 3 bolts
Remove the driveshaft from the back of your Chevy transmission. Remove the transmission mount retaining bolts. Remove the retaining bolts from the Bell housing. The transmission can then slide backwards. Don't forget to unbolt the torque converter from the flex-plate and remove the torque converter with the transmission.
If the torque converter is loose it can do alot of damage to the transmission too. My ex- had to replace the transmission because the bolts were not put in correctly when someone else had changed something out. He had to put in a new transmission and torque converter. If it is running too rough you may have to change it all out. Check the bolts first to make sure everything is tight. If it is then you'll probably need new trany and torque converter.
Bell housing bolts and the torque converter bolts.
There is a small access panel underneath that you must remove first in order to access the torque converter bolts. The panel is very small so a socket and wrench should be used. Bolts should be 17MM. Good luck!
remove the starter for access to the t.c. nuts,i have done this twice
You need to remove the lower transmission inspection cover.
pull the trans. and ther are 5=6 bolts
It is between the front of the transmission and the back of the engine block. It slides over a shaft and into the pump on the front of the transmission. Before you remove the transmission to service the torque converter you must remove the 3 bolts that hold the converter to the FLY-WHEEL.
turn the flywheel with a big screwdriver
