Where do alligators live?
Alligators live in freshwater and brackish swamps and marshes. Other than the rare Chinese Alligator, which lives on the Yangtze River, alligators are native to the southeastern United States. They are different in several ways from the related crocodilians known as crocodiles.
The largest alligator population lives in the state of Louisiana, and they are found in marshy areas of other states such as Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
