People in France live in many different areas. There are regions that are similar to provinces in Canada or the states in the USA. There are many large cities, like Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Strasbourg, Nancy, Nantes, etc. but there are also smaller towns like Orléans (south of Paris) and also very small villages like Imling (near Nancy). Most people who live in large cities live in suburbs of the city (it is very expensive to live within the city limits and also very impractical). People live on farms, in chateaux (not castles but manors or "mansions" if you will...). For the most part, they live just like we do in the Western world!

The main ethnic group in France is by far the Caucasians (ie white Europeans). Populations of Black African origin went through the Immigration waves and settled mainly in major towns where work opportunities drew them. The majority of people of African descent are still living in major French urban areas, and they also make up most of the population of the Guadeloupe and Martinique islands in the Carribbean sea, as well as a very large part of the population of French Guiana.
