They are not extinct.
Dugongs are endangered because they get killed by boats, get entangled in nets, loss of habitat and destruction of breeding grounds.
They used to be hunted for their meat, blubber, oil, skin and bones. Sharks, humans and some other marine animals like crocodiles and killer whales are the only predators of the dugong.

∙ 12y agoThe Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) was hunted to extinction within 27 years of it's discovery by Europeans, in 1741. So they were extinct by 1768.
The four remaining related species of manatee and dugong are currently in danger of extinction.
