theres a tool for this, there is no dipstick... but check out the library for a PROFESSIONAL shop manual, it should show the procedure with the tool, and you may be able to figure it out...good luck :)
If its an automatic it is a sealed transmission and has to be taking to the dealer and hooked up to their computer to check the fluid level.
How do you check the transmission fluid level on 1999 jetta GLS?
how do you check the transmission fluid in a jetta 2003
I need to know how th check transmission fluid level on my granddaughter's '69 VW Jetta.
I have a 99 jetta, and you are unable to check the transmission fluid on your own. You will have to take it to a service station where they will check it for you for free.
Take drain plug out from bottom of pan. Fill thru the vent tube until fluid comes out of the drain.
Its sealed, you have to take it to the dealer!!!!
I know for all the cars we have had ,that if it is an automatic transmission you have to pour the transmission fluid down the Transmission dipstick (where you check the fluid at), But if your car is a 5 speed manual you have to check the fluid under the car and pour it in there. The system is a closed system, its meant to last the life of the transmission. This being said there is no dipstick at all on an automatic jetta I'm not sure of the years but the 97's don't have one. There is an area where a dipstick can be added in the front of the transmission near the radiator you will have to look for it and you can buy the $19.00 mod piece on eBay or elsewhere.
If you have a tdi jetta then you would have a sealed transmission, so you can not check the fluid level on those transmissions
AT can mean Automatic Transmission.
