If $30 seem too much, S2 often announce limited sales and discounted offers - just follow their facebook page or check their website regularly.
Sometimes S2 release accounts that allow you to play 10 games for free, but after that you still need to pay to continue playing. One of the websites in the related links claims to have 10 invitations left, you can turn to the webmaster and ask him about one.
