A bicycle has high friction at the brakes, first and foremost. Then at places where the rider holds on to the bike, Grips and pedals. Between tires and road.
A big part.
W/o friction, brakes wouldn't slow the bike down.
Mainly at the brake pads.
According to the pics I find, it should have a coaster brake (pedal-backwards) rear hub/wheel. Nothing else. It's probably possible to fit a long-reach caliper brake to the front.
A brake pad is a part of the disk brakes in your vehicle that help stop the vehicle. There are generally two brake pads that are made of steel with a material on them that provides friction. When the two pads are pressed together by other components of your brake system, then the friction created helps to stop the car. You can find brake pads at any auto parts store. They're also not difficult to install yourself.
use your emergency brake if in motion, if not in motion get new brakes!
Sort of, maybe. Some cantis use pads with smooth posts, and it's very rare to find a v-brake that take those. But some canti brakes use pads with threaded posts, and those should work, after a fashion, with v-brakes. Do note that canti brake pads are usually thicker and shorter than v-brake pads, which can influence the performance and the setup.
In the engine, transmission, rear end, tires, brakes, etc.
There are front brakes and rear brakes. There are a total of four brakes on a car. Every wheel on the car has its own brake and every car has the same number of brakes.
You can find Brembo brake pads at online retailers such as Auto Anything or the Brembo website itself. Some other sites you can purchase these brakes at include Buy Brakes and Tire Rack.
Visit the forums at genvibe.com. There is a nice walk through with brakes to service your front brakes.
BMX isn't a manufacturer, it's type of bicycle - just like sneaker is a type of shoe. BMX doesn't make any bicycles. Bicycle manufacturers make BMX bikes. And pedal brakes aren't that good on a performance bike, as you have to wait until your pedals are in the right position before you can brake. But it's possible that you can find a BMX-looking kids/juvenile bike with a pedal brake. Don't expect it to do particularly well if it gets ridden hard though.
You should not drive the car until the brakes are repaired.
If your brakes are grinding at all, you need to inspect the brake pads. I suspect you will find your pads are worn out.
