Best Answer

The best place I am aware of to sell silver for it's melt value would be the Silver and Gold Exchange. They are unlike the "Cash for Gold" places because they specialize in silver. They also post the prices they pay for various types of silver on a live price chart on their website. (just Google "Silver and Gold Exchange" and you'll find them).

They pay considerably more than local buyers or other online buyers and they have a spotless Better Business Bureau report. They also cover shipping and insurance.

What is the melt value of 22 pounds of 1964 and older dimes?

Don't do it! Chances are you'll melt at least a few coins(and maybe alot) that are worth many times their value in silver. If you want to sell put them up on eBay as small lots and they will still sell for slightly more than their silver value. If you sell them to a melter you'll get maybe 50% of their value as silver cause when you melt them you'll lose alot of metal. contact me at csr8008@gmail.com if you want to arrange a sale.

Do you have information on a dollar size gold coin with Benjamin Franklin on it from the Franklin mint in 1976?

Typically the value of Franklin Mint items is its the melt value. This is the value of the silver if the item was melted down for its scrap value. Keep in mind that Franklin Mint uses Sterling Silver. It is only 92.5% silver. Pure silver is 99.9% silver. So the melt value is adjusted accordingly. A good rule of thumb is to expect to get about 80% of the price of pure silver. That said, like with any collectible, it is worth what someone else is willing to pay. If you happen to find someone who whats it and values it for more than the melt value, then count yourself lucky. And sell it to them. R.H.

What is the value of a 1986 Christmas one troy ounce 999 silver coin?

What you have is a piece of silver bullion made by a private silver company. Its value is whatever the value of an ounce of silver is. As of October 18, 2007, silver was $13.85 per troy ounce. You can check the current spot price of silver at Kitco.com: http://kitco.com A dealer will usually buy these bullion pieces at about 90% of the melt value, and sell them at about 110% of the melt value, as they have to make a profit in order to stay in business. At $13.85/oz, expect to get about $12.50 for it, and expect a scrupulous dealer to charge no more than $15 for the same piece.
