Check for a bad thermostat, under the housing on the engine end of the top radiator hose.
I am about to attempt this same procedure on my 97 also, according to the Haynes Manual, theres a screw on the parking brake handle that you have to remove, and one on the shifter also, after that its just a bunch of plastic fastners. once you remove the console and the floor panels, its supposedly just held in by 2 clips.

it looks to me on mine that mine is in the middle of the back window u should see a little black think sticking up inside ur car in the back window.

i have a 97 Saturn sl and the fuse box is about 12 inches long and shaped like a rectangle and placed under the hood on the driver's side...take the top of and the fuses are inside
