That all depends, if it's a laptop, it most likely goes on the side .. If it's a desktop, some have a slot and some don't. If there is a slot, it would be in the front of the computer.
If you aren't talking about SD cards or mmc cards or whatever else cameras use, and you are talking about a RAM card, then you have to turn off the computer, open up the casing, and stick it into it's slot on the motherboard.

What kind of memory card are you taking about? the kind that comes from a camera? An SD card? or a RAM upgrade?
SD cards should have a slot on the front of the computer. If you are trying to install a RAM chip, you have to open up the computer.
