Angola, in Africa. In the first novel, Tarzan of the Apes, Jane Porter writes a letter to a friend from the treehouse built by Tarzan's father. In her letter she states that they are located on the West African coast at approximately 10 degrees south of the equator. This places the action in modern day Angola, in the area of Kissama National Park. It should be noted that the author was not personally familiar with African geography, and the dense jungles he describes are generally found further north.

∙ 12y agoThe book says in central Africa, and it can generally be assumed that Tarzan takes place in the present-day African country of Gabon since most of Gabon is covered in jungle and has the largest gorilla population in the world. Also, the movie and television cartoon series depict jungle coastline which also can lead to it being placed in Gabon.

∙ 10y agoThe movie Tarzan takes place in the jungle. Presumably in Africa. Tarzan's parents were shipwrecked and found refuge in a nearby jungle. But when he was just a baby, his parents were killed by the leopard Sabor. That's when he was found by Kala, the wife of the leader of a gorilla clan. She raises Tarzan as her own.

Why do you need to read books when there are movies to be watched?
Movies almost never contain everthing from the book. Details in the movies are frequently changed. For example, the novel "Tarzan" by Edgar Rice Burroughs is much better than any Tarzan film ever made. In the book, Tarzan teaches himself how to read English. But the first person he meets is French. So he speaks French and reads English. This isn't in any of the movies.
