Original from Wasserburg, currently in Southern Germany (it used to be inside the Austrian borders). The etymology of the surname implies some kind of military origin. It appeared later in other places in different forms, as Berrigen in Ireland. Probably the most extended form is Barragan, from Spain, where its presence is attested as early as the XI century. From there it came to America and, probably arrived to the United States that way.
