Are there tail lights? If not, then the light switch itself might be bad. If the tail lights/running lights are working, and only the dash is affected, did you put in an aftermarket radio? It gets kind of complicated after that.
The instrument panel is the gauges and warning lights that are in front of the driver and behind the steering wheel

I have the same problem with my 1999. The tail lights as well as the interior instrument panel and the license plate lights are all not working.
on your car the flasher is located behind the instrument cluster beside the hazzard lights button.
i have a 2003 ranger and that happened to me it was just a blown fuse under the hood
A malfunction has been detected
no body did beside lights made it!
What are the headlights doing? Is the bulb burned out? Are the lights not coming on at all? Are they misaligned?
How to change dash lights on a 95 Ford Ranger?
Check the sockets for corrosion, power, groundCheck the wiring for an openRun a test wire from the tailights to the plate lightNote to the next guy this happens to: The fuse for the plate lights on my Ford Ranger (2000) was *not* in the standard fuse box beside the instrument panel. There's a secondary fuse box under the hood, in a rectangular box close to the corner nearest the driver. It's called the "Power Box" or something similar. You probably checked the wrong fuses.
Beside your headlight switch in the dash is your gauge panel dimmer switch ( Rotate the switch all the way up to turn on the interior lights )
under the hood in the power dist box it will be the first big fuse (red) at the firewall closest to the fender
