The first atomic "bomb" tested was a implosion type plutonium device named "the Gadget" at the Trinity test site near Alamogordo, New Mexico in the USA. Although it was not a deliverable weapon its explosive core was almost exactly the same as the "Fat Man" bomb used on Nagasaki.

The word bomb was not actually used due to fears of espionage. The term device was used instead.
