They did not have cabin filters back then. Most didn't start using cabin filters iluntil the late 90's.

The cabin air filter is located directly under the passenger side windshield wiper. All that needs done is a few remove a few screws and the long filer is underneath.
A pollen filer also known as a cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. To replace the filter remove the glove box.
Open the hood of your Audi. To the left side you'll see the engine intake filter. Just above that and behind is the cabin air filter. It's easier to see if you remove the engine intake filer.
