In the Negev about one mile from the Gaza Strip. Sderot is located on the site of Najd, a village destroyed by the invaders. Najd was an Arab village in Palestine, 14 kilometres northeast of Gaza City. On 13 May 1948 it was occupied by Jewish soldiers from the Negev Brigade as part of Operation Barak. The people were forced out and fled to Gaza, and the village was completely destroyed and razed. In 1951 the town of Sderot was built on the stolen land.
