Tom's father and mother were simply dead. No details to their deaths is given or as to why he came to live with Aunt Polly and cousin Mary with his half brotherr Sid ( a year or so younger) . No mention is made of the relation of Sid to Tom (whether Tom and Sid as half brothers share mother or a father) . Tom is the son of Polly's dead sister.

∙ 13y agoTom parents never were really in the story or were really in Toms life. They died when he was young and he lives with his Aunt Polly. She is his only main family member and the only one he really know.
In Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," Tom's parents are not mentioned as having died. They are simply absent from the story, with Tom living under the care of his Aunt Polly.
