That depends on which encyclopedia you mean. Encyclopedia Brittanica is published by a company of the same name. Wikipedia is published/managed by the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization. Others may be published by large publishing houses or self-published by an organization that exists only to publish that collection.
