The fuel line will come from the gas tank and go up the engine.The fuel line goes into the tank.
Unless there is an access panel above the pump in the vehicle you will have to drop the fuel tank.
If they are the same engine size, they are interchangeable. I would not put a fuel pump from a V6 on a 4 cylinder, and vica-versa. The Malibus from 97-02 all have interchangeable parts
the proper way to change fuel pressure regulater, first remove line to regulater,then take out screw that holds reg, to rail. to replace put fuel line on first or it will leak. then put screw back in and your done.

check the fuel pressure it should be at like 35 to 40 psi its like 30$ for a tester the tester hooks up on the fuel rail my 98 Chevy Malibu was only pushing 18 psi replaced it car runs great
