∙ 2010-07-16 22:09:53There is no transmission dip stick for a 2002 Mercury mountaineer, fluid will need to be checked from under the vehicle. There is a fill plug on the transmission, remove the plug and fluid level should be up to the level of the plug hole. This is the only year mercury did this in the mountaineer.

The transmission dip stick on a 1994 Mercury Sable is located on the driver's side of the motor. It has a white-handled ring and it is about midway between the radiator and the back fire wall.
The transmission does not have a dip stick. There is a special tool needed to pump transmission fluid into the transmission.Bad news, transmissions on these trucks go out so often they are kept in stock at major transmission service centers.
Next to the battery
The transmission dip stick is located near the oil dip stick. This is in a 1962 Catalina.

On a 1997 Mercury Tracer : The AUTOMATIC transmission fluid dipstick would be on the side of the transmission ( transaxle ) in the area of the brake fluid reservoir . The manual transmission ( transaxle ) does not have a dipstick
