There are two answers. Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island, is the oldest surviving synagogue building; construction began in 1759. Congregation Shearith Israel was founded in New Amsterdam in 1654, but it has moved to new buildings (all on Manhattan Island) several times; their current building was built in 1897. Curiously, Shearith Israel owns the Touro Synagogue building (the Newport Jewish congregation went dissolved and dispersed in the early 19th century).
