Physical Features of the United Arab Emirates

Mountains of the UAE:

The United Arab Emirates has a magnificent mountain ranges such as the Hajjar Mountains(The Stone Mountains) which rises in some areas to 2,500 meters. Then the rugged Jebel Jais mountain area (which reaches a height of 5,700 feet), and the famous Jebal Hafeetmountain of Al Ain, which has one of the greatest winding roads in the world measuring in length at 7.3 miles and reaching almost 4,000 feet. The road has a total of 60 corners. It has become a hotspot for both tourists and cyclists from around the world who use the road for both training and annual international challenges. There are several more mountains in the area with similar spectacular views.

Deserts of the UAE:

The deserts of the UAE are vast. UAE land is mostly covered by the Empty Quarter known locally as 'Rub Al Khali'; the golden dunes in many areas go on and on and on.

The desert also has quicksand and its dunes are very high. Weather can reach 48c in the UAE so the desert would be extremely harsh, and yet at night it can plummet and become quite cold indeed. The UAE deserts are absolutely astonishing and quite breathing taking to anyone who sees them.

It is home to many wild creatures such as Gazelles, desert cats, spiny lizards, scorpions, hyenas and snakes and much more.

Valleys of the UAE:

There are many spectacular valleys in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujeirah such as the Siji Valley located just a short drive from Sharjah. The area has a breathtaking view as the valley fills with flowing water and the mountains are crowned with the clouds. Many people both locals and tourists flock the area for visits and picnics or camping. Another grand valley is the Al Wurai'ah Valley, in Fujeirah. It covers over 17,000 acres of raw terrain and is one of the most beautiful places in the UAE.

Sometimes the villagers who live near the valleys have to be warned by the local Meteorological Office of oncoming flash storms or flooding during the winter months.

There are some valleys in the UAE that have dried up, and some valleys that used to be flowing rivers.

The UAE not only has magnificent deserts and beautiful grand valleys but is also very rich with long stretches of beautiful beaches along it coasts, hot water springs within the mountains and plenty of rich fertile land throughout the UAE- in the farming regions of Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah.
