Where is the backup light switch on a 1997 Dodge Neon?
It's mounted on the front drivers side of the transmission. If you are looking from underneath the car, it is between the transmission and the radiator, it will have 3 wires extending from a rubber boot. There is a rigid hose directly in front of it. You will need a 1" box end wrench to remove it and replace it, as the rigid hose makes using a socket on it very difficult if not impossible to do.
I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 with a manual transmission. The backup light does not come on when I engage the transmission into reverse. Does anyone know how to fix it?
I have a 98 Concorde. My backup lights stopped working and I had my independent garage mechanic check it out while working on another problem and he told me the switch is internal, inside the transmission housing. I didn't pursue it futher. I'm not about to have them tear into the transmission just to replace a simple switch. Another example of Chrysler's wonderful engineering.
Check all the fuses, if they are good you have a bad backup light switch, are a broke wire. From email@example.com Hi, I just had the same problem the backup light would come on now and then. I didn't really noticed it until I had hooked up a towed vehicle with actuated brake system and a back up cut off switch. I couldn't back up the trailer when the back up light wasn't getting power…
There is a backup switch in the gearbox. When you shift into reverse, the gear box switch contacts the switch and lights the white reverse lights. If you find that the reverse lights don't work it could be that the switch is not being triggered by the mechanism inside the gearbox. This is providing that everything else is working; wiring, bulbs, etc.
Why would the dome light in a 1996 Dodge Neon come on when the headlight switch is used but not when the doors are open?
The door jamb switch normally completes the power circuit to the dome lamp when the door is open. When the door is closed the switch opens the circuit, removing power from the dome light. If the switch is dirty, defective, stuck pushed in, or disconnected from the wiring, when the door is open the switch does not close the circuit and the dome light remains off as if the door is still closed. The headlight…
