The voltage regulator is attachd to the alternator. It bolts on the alternator itself. If you ever replace the alternator, dont make the same mistake I did and not remove the voltage regulator because they are not sold as a whole unit..
There are two bolts on the bottom of the alternator that you can't see but you can feel them, these are the pivot bolts, remove them. Then remove the adjustment bolt on top of the alternator. Remove wiring from back of alternator. Reverse instructions for install.
Need to lift car. From the bottom remove the compressor it has 4 bolts, then you will be able to see the bolt that goes to alternator, also loosen the pully from the top then and bottom the botom.

The fan housing on a 97 200sx is held in using 3 10mm bolts on the top of the fan housing. once you remove these 3 bolts and unplug the fans they lift right out

i found that there is only to bolts including the tensioner and do i need to remove the radiator hose

its a little of both. From the bottom you can reach the wires and the bolts just get someone to help loosen the bolts on the top and it will come right down.
assuming you have the new alternator, make sure if your belt is warn you have a new one on hand, there are 2 bolts to be concerned with, the top one on the sliding bracket and the bottom one that holds the alternator, loosen the slide bracket bolt to free the belt, remove belt and the bolt. then remove the bottom bolt (might need a breaker bar for this). but new one in the way the old on came out. make sure you tighten the belt correctly on the alternator or it could fly off.
Disconnect battery. Disconnect wires from alternator. Loosen bolts and remove belt. Remove bolts holing alternator in place.

Disconnect the battery Remove the engine covers to access the alternator drive belts. Remove the electrical connections from the alternator. Slacken the bolts, remove the belt. Remove bolts, put new alternator on, tighten bolts until you can just move alternator, fit new belt, move alternator so the belt is tight and then tighten bolts to their specified torque.
disconnect neg. cable on batterry, loosen both bolts on alt. ,push alt.toward engine,remove belt from pulley,disconnect wires from alt.remove top bolt and bottom bolt and remove alt.
