Where is the brake light switch on a Nissan 300zx?
On my '86 (and all the other cars I've worked on) it's been attached to the bracket that holds the brake pedal. Usually it screws in (so you can adjust it) and it has a stop nut (so you can keep it from vibrating out of adjustment). Bob
You did not specify what year the 300ZX is. If it's a 1985, the brake light fuse is in the fuse panel near the drivers left foot, third up from the bottom on the left side of the panel.(should be marked on the inside of the cover ) Hope that solves your problem, or the brake light switch behind the break pedal may need replacement.(inexpensive part, around $7.00 at Auto Zone/Advanced auto.
If you're talking about the brake light staying on, it may be either the small plastic button that pushes on the brake light switch on the brake pedal, or the brake light switch itself. If you're talking about taillights only, it may possibly be the light switch on the steering column that has gone bad and needs replacing.
Why would a 1985 Nissan 300zx parking lights and tail lights stay on when you turn off the ignition?
There are three possibilities. 1 The cheapest to fix and the most likely scenario is the same problem that I had on my 1984 300zx turbo. There is a small dime sized rubber part on the brake pedal that depresses a small brake switch when you push down on the brake pedal. This turns the brake lights on. When this is removed or falls off, there is nothing to depress the switch and so the…
It sounds like the brake light switch might be bad, or sticking. ANOTHER SIMPLE SOLUTION TYO CHECK FIRST: Before you go getting the brake switch replaced you should check for a simple and inexpensive solution. This simple and inexpensive solution is probably the cause and very common on these cars. There are two small brake pedal stoppers that snap into the brake pedal. If they are not in place, the switch cannot be depressed and…
Remove brake light interior trim panels. Then you push and twist the socket for the brake light that needs replacing. Then pull out socket. then pull out bulb from socket and place new bulb in the light socket. Once bulb is installed into light socket. Place the socket where you removed it from brake light housing. Push and twist clockwise to lock back in place. Then replace trim panels.
