Hey Robert==I am quite sure it is in the distributer. GoodluckJoe there is no distributer on this car as it has a crank pickup sensor coil packs and a cam positioning sensor, the cam positioning sensor does slip in just as the old distributer does but it only has a plug on top of the engine, it is located on the top front of the engine under the air conditioning pump bracket it will have one bolt with an over sized washer holding it on and one plug to unhook the wires and it will pull straight up and out of the engine.
how do you replace the camshaft position sensor on a 1997 plymouth voyager 3l
The 1997 Chevrolet K 3500 pickup truck camshaft position sensor is located on the back of the cylinder head. The camshaft position sensor should be labeled as such.
The position of the camshaft sensor on your 1997 Camaro is dependent upon the type of engine in the Camaro. In most cases the camshaft position sensor is on the back of the left-hand cylinder head.
If I'm not mistaken, I think the camshaft position sensor on these engines is built into the distributor. You'd have to replace the whole thing.

4.3L? In the distributor.
That would be the pick up plate in the distributor under the rotor and cap.
It is mounted on the inside of the distributor. Under the cap. Left top side when looking at it.
I am led to believe that the camshaft position sensor is located at the front right side of the bay...underneath the oil refil cap...to the left of the battery...it has a small grey electrical plug attched with what should be a 10mm bolt. Hope this helps...
On my 94, I6, it was lower right, from the front of the vehicle. There is a wire from the distributor to the sensor. Follow that.
