Where is the catalytic converter located on the 1990 Toyota Camry in relation to the engine?
Crawl under the car. You will see a muffler, and a catalytic converter which look similar. The converter is the one closest to the engine.
If it's a 4 cyl. It should be between the exhaust manifold and engine pipe.
There are 2 catalytic converters on a V8 2002 Toyota Tundra. Bank 1 is the manifold and cat on the drivers side and bank 2 is the manifold and cat on the passenger side. Sensor 1 is the sensor on the exhaust manifold before the catalytic converter. Sensor 2 is the sensor located after the cat converter. Bank 2 Sensor 2 is the sensor located after the catalytic coverter on the passenger side.
According to Auto Zone, the sensor 1 bank 1 is before the catalytic converter with 2 and 3 located further downstream and are typically mounted in or after the catalytic converter. (bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinder on the opposite bank). What i need to know, is where the catalytic converter is on the engine. Hope this helps.
I have a 04 Toyota Matrix that has a bad catalytic converter that I need to get replaced too. I have found that Toyota's warranty on the catalytic converter is 8 years or 80,000 miles, which ever comes first. If your car is under those requirements than you can have a Toyota Dealership repair it for free. Unfortunately my Toyota has over 120,000 miles so I will have to pay for mine out of pocket…
There are 3 oxygen sensors; one in the front exhaust manifold, one in the rear exhaust manifold, one AFTER the catalytic converter. The 2 exhaust manifold sensors are the same BUT the catalytic converter one is different. Also, the 2 exhaust manifold sensors have heaters in them, while the converter one doesn't.
The 1996 Camry V6 engine has the front pipe assembly and converter all in 1 piece. For some reason, Toyota welded the converter to the pipe assembly at the front, while the rear of the converter bolts to the tailpipe. The assembly is $230.00 USD from Car Stuff (Eastern converter product) in the U.S., and I found a Canadian source through Speedy Muffler (LaPointe), $472.86 CDN
