Take this key, go through one of the wooden doors on ground level. If you go through the left door, the basement will be on your right. If you go through the right door, the basement will be on your left. Simply go down the stairs, and walk up to the door. Mario will then pull out the key, stick it in the lock, turn it, and open the door. You are now in the basement.
