There is a plug on the side of the tranny. take it out. If fluid runs out, put the plug back in the hole and get on with life. If no fluid runs out, check your manual for what transmission fluid to use. Fill it till it runs out at the plug a bit. Be sure to use the transmission fluid recommended for Chevy S10 5 speed manual transmissions.

According to my factory service manual a 3 speed transaxle uses 5 quarts of transmission fluid.
Honda Manual Transmission Fluid is recommended for a 5-speed manual B16A motor. Amsoil Manual Transmission Fluid will also work in a 5-speed manual B16A motor.

Check the transmission fluid first. If the fluid is fine, check the Speed Control Sensor. This happened to me yesterday, and computer diognostics showed it to be the Speed Control Sensor had gone bad. Fluid is a good place to start. Make sure you change it IAW your owners manual or service professional. If it is within correct range get the fly wheel checked if a manual, if automatic it still may be the flywheel but also check your cabling depending on where it was made.
