Where is the fuel filter located and how do you replace it on a 1997 Mercury Tracer?

Look for it in the fuel line from the engine back to the tank. Special tools are required and the parts store should show you how to use them

On my 1999 Mercury Tracer, the fuel filter is mounted on the firewall. It's on the driver-side, on the passenger-side of the brake cylinder. I don't know how to get my hands in to change it though. Jonathon

If you mean the Constant Control Relay Module, it is located under the air filter.

The 1998 Mercury Tracer owners manual shows : 4.0 quarts ( 3.8 liters ) with oil filter change

The fuel filter is located in the engine compartment between the fuel tank and the fuel rail. It's on the underside of the car, near the CV axle. You'll have to raise the car to replace it. There's a plastic retaining clip on the upper fuel filter hose that needs to be removed before you can slip the hose off the filter.

transmission filters are generally located just inside the transmission oil pan, have to remove pan and drain fluid to change filter.
