If the tank is full, then yes, lift off the bed. The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly. Sorry, it's one piece. Don't think you can change it.I've read on other sites that it's easier to unbolt the bed and lift it off (with a couple buddies helping you) than it is to drain and drop the tank.

You will find it in the fuel tank with the pump. that is the sock at the end of the pump motor. I bought a fuel filter for my 95/96 Dakota and it clearly bolts to the under body or frame kinda the same as the Ford Ranger, but I can't find mine!HELP!!!!!!!!!

if the truck has a 2.5 then there is an inline filter mounted along the frame rail. otherwise there is a sock filter in the tank but there is also a filter/regulator assy. on the top of the fuel pump module that for 96 is only serviced with the fuel pump assy. these very seldom go out, so this is most likely not your problem.

well im trying to find that same information myself. However, the fuel filter for a 1995 Dakota is in the fuel pump in ur tank. Oh boy, right? lol. I'm praying it ain't the same but fearing it is. hope i helped.
