Where is the ignition coil on a 97 Cherokee sport?

follow the coil wire in the center of the distributor cap back ( this is from the Hayne's repair manual )

On the '93-'97 GT's the ignition coil is part of the distributor. If your coil goes bad you need to change the distributor.

They are incorporated in each spark plug wire.

there isn't a traditional ignition coil on this vehicle, it is part of the distributor cap, and cannot be replaced as a separate part. on my 97 sebring 2.5L it cost around 350 dollars for the cap and coil a few years ago.

Inside the distributor cap. 3 screwes hold it down. Remove them, pull off the dizzy cap and you will see the coil.

Its the 1st igntion coil. V8 have distrubutors which is kinda the same your spark plug wires hook up to them.

A 97 Geo Metro that cranks but gets no spark is not getting enough power to the ignition coil or the coil itself is bad. The coil use the 12 volts of power provided by the battery and alternator to generate a very powerful spark.

I understand it is by the coil. You have to remove the dog house, the coil is on the right side of the engine if you were sitting in the drivers seat.

Could be a weak ignition coil Check for fuel and spark

Try checking the ignition coil #2. Also check the spark plug and its wire.

Note: Cyls Compresion is perfect, sparks, spark plugs, ignition coil, all is fine You have an ignition coil at rear of plenum. trace wires back to it...it is bad! Replace it and you should be fine!

in the fuel tank. According to the manual, it's not something that needs to be changed.

Hey, I have been reading that it is most likely the ignition coil that went out. I have the same problem and just ordered a new ignition coil... you should try that...is an easy fix
