The ignition module is located on the front of the car behind the radiator. It is located under the three coil packs which your sparks plug wires connect to. The coil packs sit on top of and are fastened to the ignition module. To remove this you have to get at it from underneath the car. You have to take the starter off and the coil packs and ignition module is located right above the starter. Three 13mm bolts hold it in place. The coil packs and ignition module come off together. You'll need an extention and swivel for your ratchet and socket to get the bolts out.
: I FOUND IT BETTER REMOVE THE FAN AND YOU HAVE SPACE TO REMOVE IT FROM TOP BUT MY PROBLEM IS THAT I CHANGE MY MODULE AND IT STILL WON'T START I CHECK THE SPARK PLUG TO SEE IF THERE WAS CURRENT FLOWING THROW AND THERE'S NO CURRENT, THERE ARE THERE PLUGS CONNECT TO THE MODULE THE ONE TO THE RIGHT WITH A TESTER : AND THE KEY TO SWITCH TO ON IT GAVE MY CURRENT BUT THE TWO PLUGS TO THE LEFT HAD NO CURRENT THIS IS WERE AM STUCK CAN SOMEONE HELP... if its a 4 cylinder, its located inside the timing case.
Well, if you have a 2.0L, you'll never find it...these engines have distributorless ignition. The ignition system is located under the intake manifold.
I have a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird with 2.0 four cylinder in it, just found the crank sensor on it, to replace it. It is located on the FRONT side of the engine, below exhaust manifold and just above the A/C compressor. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE!
Crank sensors are always located on the camshafts. The 1989 Pontiac Sunbird crank sensor is located on the head of the engine towards to end of the camshaft.

Pontiac didn't introduce the Sunfire until 1995, so you may be thinking of a Sunbird.
I found out where it goes. Open your rad cap and just drop it in. I hope this helps someone else. Annette
Sounds like a 2.3 quad 4 motor. There is a "panel" on the top of the motor, called a housing cover. It has the ignition module and ignition coils under it. Below them are boots (replace them) and the plugs.
Did you try the horn relay? It is located near the fuse box.
3 at the back of engine,3 in front
under the dash right hand side.
The oil filter is located behind the passenger side front wheel well.
