If you can't get the model number off of the decals on the front fender of side of the box, check on the frame below the front part of the box for the serial number tag, this should give you all of the information you need.
Model ID # is under the passenger seat etched into the frame and also on a metal plate on back of gator below the box on the frame. The engine serial # is on top and in the middle of the engine on a metal plate.

contact john deere customer service with your info and they can tell date and location of manufacture. I did and was told my gator was built in 2001 and discontinued in 2006, worksite construction model.
Look on the same plate the the PIN (or serial number) is found and under the PIN is a DOM number (date of manufacture) for example 032006 March 2006
No there is no way to deode the serial number but by writing it down and taking it to your local John Deere dealer, they can easily help by telling you the year.
By downloading serial numbers I assume you mean a list of years and serial numbers? And for the record, only John Deere dealers have this capability to ensure that serial numbers are not forged or altered.
Write down the serial number off the tag on the left (or maybe right?)side of the gator and take that number to where you bought it or to your John Deere dealer. They should be able to easily tell you what year it eas made.
John Deere does not have an open database to lookup serial numbers for equipment. Your local John Deere dealer would be happy to help you find the year of your gator. Use the dealer locator on John Deere's website to help you find a dealer.
By checking the serial number tag, you might be able to see the manufacture date typed right on the tag, located on the frame of the Gator right below the box on the vehicle's right side. If the date is not listed, write down the number and talk to your John Deere dealer to find out its date of manufacture.
