According to the 2004 Ford Focus Owner Guide ( 5W-20 ) With engine oil filter change : For the 2.0 liter SPI engine ( 3.78 litres / 4.0 U.S. quarts of 5W-20 ) For the 2.0 liter Zetec-E engine ( 4.25 litres /4.5 U.S. quarts of 5W-20 ) For the 2.3 liter PZEV engine ( 4.3 litres / 4.54 U.S. quarts of 5W-20 ) * except for the SVT ( Special Vehicle Team ) version which takes 5W-30
Remove plugs - visually inspect for condition - check gap (2 liter SPI engine: 1.3 mm or .051 inches) (2 liter Zetec engine: 1.4 mm or .054 inches) Ford recommends that if you are removing them for inspection only and intend to re-install them, that you re-install them in the same cylinder they were revmoved from. Since you've already gone to the trouble of removing them to check, you might just as well go ahead and replace them. (Part # for the Zetec engine: AZFS32FE - - - - for the SPI engine: AGSF34EE)
