You can either plant thorny bushes under your windows which can hinder an intruder or you can you install windows that allow ventilation through a hole or screen and still have the security you need. The only problem with putting thory bushes under your window is if there is a fire, and you have to go out the window, there is only one place for you to land, in the bushes.
