Remove the Power Steering pump hose. Remove the wiring harness from the power steering pump. Remove the power steering pump retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new power steering pump.

∙ 12y agoOn my 96 Pontiac Grand Am, the water pump is on the left hand side towards the front of the car. By the oil dip stick, and the place you put water in the car at. Its in between the two. You should see the clamp and the top of the hose, the as you look at it, it goes downwards. I just learned where it was myself, I hope that helps everyone else wandering.

You do not have to replace the spark plugs, although you do have to remove the water pump to replace the distributor cap and rotor assembly on the LT1s Optispark which drives directly off the cam behind the water pump. You may even have to remove the harmonic balancer/crank pulley, not sure but be prepared for this. I know the balancer/crank pulley does have to be removed if the whole Optispark (distributor) is to be replaced.
