I have been searching for at least ten years to find this answer as well.I have become a semi-professional browning serial number reader, but i still have not been able to find any sn that start with "X". I inherated a browning 16 guage with "X" sn and have found nothing, even my gunsmith has found nothing. Started wondering if they are military? Good lucky. The browning X prefix was assigned by browning on their 16gauge shotguns from 1947-1953.These can be found on the back pages of the latest addition of S.P.Fjestads blue book of gun values under serialization on page 2310.With the serial number that you provided, your browning 16gauge auto-5 shotgun was made by FN of belguim for browning in 1952.I hope this helps.
