Where is the speedometer cable located in 99 ford contour?
pop the hood and look right at where the back of the dash is the should be a cable coming out at that spot that's the speedometer cable
This is very common on the 1996 Ford Escort unfortunately. Basically the speedometer cable has to be re-greased or the speedometer has to be replaced with the older 80mph model. Both "fixes" require disassembly of the dash to get to the cable/speedometer. See the ford escort owners association for more details/instructions.
1991 to 1995 Explorers have a conventional speedometer cable with a drive gear that is driven by the transmission on 2 wheel drive or the transfer case on 4 wheel drive. 1996 and newer have an electronic speedometer with a vehicle speed sensor that connects to the transmission or transfer case. 2000 and newer the VSS is combined with the rear axle sensor located on top of the differential.
1996 and newer have an electronic speedometer and a vehicle speed sensor that operates your electronic speedometer and also sends a signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) The PCM uses this signal to control several different functions of the engine and transmission.. Your 1996 doesn't have a conventional speedometer cable.
