I am having the problem many others have had when starting their Jeep gc. I turn the key to start and hear one click then it turns off. Many people have said to find the yellow solenoid wire connecting to the starter and then to clean/wiggle it and that should solve the problem.
If everything goes dead after that first click, double check, clean and tighten both ends of both battery cables.
On the passenger front inner fender, near the 4 plasitic relays, it is a metal relay with the positive battery cable connected to it.

Their are 2 main bolts that hold on a thermostat housing for an 1987 jeep cheorkee pioneer!!
On this specific vehicle, it is located under the vehicle on the passenger side, in the rear bottom of the motor, near the bellhousing. It is much easier to see it if you remove the starter. Actually, it will be a lot easier to replace if you remove the starter. Carefully remove the 3 pin connector so that it doesn't break. Then remove the bolt holding the connector and twist the sensor as you pull it out. Hope this helps.
1987 and up will be interchangeable, although there might be some reflashing of the ECM required.
I don't have the Formula AT, just a 1987 Firebird with 305. The relay is located on firewall drivers side. There are 2 that look similiar. Go to this web site for a picture and part number. http://www.rockauto.com/ref/ACDelco/Detail.html?15-8333.jpg or this site to do further searches on the car. http://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/mak,PONTIAC,1987,FIREBIRD+TRANS+AM,1251436,5.0L+305cid+V8+4BBL+(H),ELECTRICAL-SWITCH+xxampxx+RELAY why the relay? check the fan temp switch on the right lower engine block.
The starter relay on a 1987 Toyota Van is on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is part of a bank of relay switches screwed into the passenger side fender wall.
follow the wire from the positive side of the battery it will lead you to it
The solenoid is attached to the starter. The starter or pilot relay is located on the fender behind the battery. On some models (notably the 4.0L engines) there is also a solenoid located on the starter motor itself, under the vehicle. In this case, the relay on the fender serves only as a pilot.
Inside the right of the engine compartment, near the battery.
Just went thru it with a friend's Lincoln the starter relay was sticking tapped on it to stop!!! What an awful sound!!! Replace starter relay on fender well!1 hope that helps!!
Get out yer cuttin torch and start cuttin. When ya reach the radiator hose just whip out yer knife. That's all, folks.
It has either a bad starter solenoid, which is the smaller cylinder on the bigger starter body, or a starter relay which is found if you backtrack the thicker power wire from the starter motor solenoid.
i thiunk it is on the passenger firewall its about 2x3 inches in has big hot from bat, wire -solenoid ,alt
Had similar problem on 1987 lebaron replaced starter relay under hood driver side over wheel well next to cooling fan relay.
How do you change the starter on a 1987 virago motorcycle
Laredo - 1965 was released on: USA: 16 September 1965 France: 4 March 1987
I had the same problem. Putting in a new starter relay and changing out the battery cables fixed the issue.
