IF YOU FOLLOW THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE TO THE ENGINE,YOU WILL LOCATE THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING.THERE ARE TWO BOLTS THAT HOLD THE HOUSING ON. THE THERMOSTAT SETS INSIDE THE HOUSING.
When you do a oil change on a 1986 Toyota Tercel it holds 4.5 quarts of oil. As recommended in the owners manual always double check your dipstick after changing the oil and putting in new oil.
Almost all thermostats are located where the top radiator hose connects to the engine. The tube that the hose goes over should have two bolts holding it on. The thermostat is under that.
Follow the upper radiator hose towards the engine block, The part the hose clamps to is the thermostat housing, the thermostat is located under this, generally this requires moving 2 or 3 bolts to acces the thermostat.
