The thermostat is located under the engine, driver side very close to the front. There are 2 small bolts you need to remove to take out the housing. Be prepared for falling coolant. :) Good Luck Where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine. Don't bother looking in the Haynes manual. The answers are not there for that engine, only the other models. Once you see it, you will know it. If it is overheating, bleed the system (bleed screw is on top, passenger side under the intake)before you start replacing parts. This is common on these engines because the water pump can draw in air at high RPM's and corrupt the system. If you have a consistent air problem, the water pump may need to be changed. Radiators have been known to collapse after a lot of miles also in the Subaru Legacy models. Check the cooling fan operations and all of the other standard checks before you give up. Many times it is something simple. Just don't let it get so hot that you blow a head gasket. Good luck.
bottom radiator hose
ok 1990-1994 subaru legacy engines are basically the same the water pump on mine 1991 is located on the thermostat housing on the bottom of the engine on the lower tube off the radiator so find your lower radiator hose follow it is should go to the thermostat and the water pump is on that
Its under the engine, on the drivers side. Two bollts, you cant miss it.
In general, many of the 1990 through 1993 parts are interchangeable on the Subaru Legacys. But your best source would be a 1991 Subaru Legacy, followed by a 1990 Subaru Legacy. Verify the bolt patters before purchasing from 1992 or 1993.
if it has one , drivers side bottom if not pull the lower hose
It is located inside the fuel tank, under the carpet, behind the rear seats.

it is in the fuse panel under the hood. Located on the drivers side.
Left side bank down under left lower side front with a heater hose (steel pipe) going in at a 90* turn just above housing flange.
Follow the top radiator hose till it meets the engine and it will be inside the metal housing.
with your hands...
The starter is interchangable between all 1990-1994 Legacies and maybe even up to 1999.
Guess! And follow ppl.
it Goes from the Gauge Cluster. throught the firewall and connects down in the top passanger side of the tranny
Look in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose All modern (1990+) Subaru engines have the thermostat located in a housing at the bottom of the engine. Follow the lower radiator hose to find the housing. There are 2 bolts holding it on the engine block.
Oxygen sensor on 1990 Subaru Legacy is under car, just behind engine where exhaust manifolds join but before catalytic converter. Wires run up right side of bellhousing and connect into wiring harness.
Front seating area, center, under dash, front of console, mounted on firewall.
Does it have a distributor? I thought these cars ran on the harmonic balancing system
I had this issue on a subaru forester turbo.. tunred out to be my fuel pump I had this issue on a subaru forester turbo.. tunred out to be my fuel pump
The gap on mine is .044. Its a 1990 Legacy. If this is not right somebody let me know.
Low coolant cooling fans not working thermostat not opening radiator dirty or plugged water pump not working system "airbound" defective radiator cap hoses collapsing
The thermostat housing is located at the engine end of the lower radiator hose.
Follow the top radiator hose as it connects to the front of the engine. The thermostat is located in that housing.
1990 Camry 4 cylinder thermostat is located off the bottom intake hose connected to the engine block.
