the thermostat is on behind what autozone calls the GOOSENECK.u have to follow the radiator hose to the front of the water pump. its middle of the engine right in front. the fan can get in the way because it was for me but a lil time and you will get it. it isn't a traditional spot but once u find it youll wonder how u looked over it so many times

The diagram of the thermostat location can be found in the 2000 ford ranger service manual. The manual might be available at the library, and can be bought through the local auto parts store.

In both the 4 & 6 cylinder models follow the upper radiator hose to the engine block, the piece it connects to is the cover with the thermostat in it. I just did the a 94/4.0 V6 and the bolts are a bit tight to access. Ensure you have a flex socket handle. I found the steps in the Haynes manual for this vehicle.

On my Dad's 1992 XLT Ranger I just followed the upper radiator hose to the enginge. It is the 2.3 Liter. It is on the front of the engine. My 1978 Chevy 350 it is also found by following the upper to the top of the block. Start there or cheat & go to parts store when buying the new one & ask. Sometimes they will help out. In the Haynes Ford Ranger repair manual, it gives two locations, both located by following the upper radiator hose as noted above. On the 4 cylinder engine, it's located on the front of the engine block. On the 6 cylinder engine, it's located near the front of the intake manifold.

the same way you replace it on any car you buy a chilton manual for your car and a thermostat and then follow the instuctions in the manual
