If you are refering to the Water and Radiator cooling system on a 2.5L V-6 Mazda 626. The Thermostat is located at the top of the hose that comes off the bottom of the radiator, it is NOT located near the upper hose closest to the fill cap and resevior. All tools are small 8, 10, and 12mm wrenches, but you'll probably want a torque wrench for some the final tightening, just to make sure you don't over tighten or leave too loose. You have to remove the air filter box: top and bottom sections. There is a interesting transition piece between the top section of the lower hose that connects to the bell-like housing that is over the Thermostat. It looks like and does flex, but you still have to unbolt the unit from the engine block to access and remove the bell-like cover over the Thermostat.
