it is above the starter, to the left of the battery if you are facing it. it is an inline.. there should be three hoses that connect together in that general area. where those hoses connect should be a housing the thermostat is in it.
Open the hood, locate the upper radiator hose on the radiator, follow the hose from the radiator, it will lead you to the thermostat housing on the engine, the thermostat is located under the thermostat housing.
Follow the lower radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat.

there are 2 large black hoses that come off of your radiator. the one located higher on the radiator (upper radiator hose) goes from your radiator to the thermostat housing. the thermostat housing is a metal tube that is bolted to the engine. the thermostat is located inside of the housing and can be accessed by removing the bolts
The 1999 Pontiac Bonneville thermostat is located on the front of the engine, near the bottom. You can follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing.
