The automatic transmission dipstick is towards the passenger side of the
engine beside the firewall
A plug, it is on the D/S of the transmission.
Check the electrical plug on the transmission that controls the overdrive. it may be loose,dissconnected or broken..Thats what I had happen to my 1988 Bronco ll...good luck dude.. Sal D.
on the left side of the automatic transmission, where the shift lever attaches. "D" shaped, with 2 wires.

For an automatic transmission, check the fluid level on the ATF dipstick. Refer to your owner's manual for the location of the dipstick.If the level is low, use a funnel to add more ATF by pouring it into the ATF dipstick tube. Be sure to use the right kind of ATF. The new "D/M" ATFs can be used in most cars.
If it has a pointer device and window on top of the steering wheel columm that has the letters P-R-D-2-1 or such it will have an automatic transmission

(P-R-P-N-P-D-P-L) Remove dipstick Wipe Clean Remove dipstick and take reading - - DO NOT OVERFILL If you do not find a dipstick, it is because there is none. See other answers above, there is a fill adn check plug on the transmission itself.

The safety neutral switch on a 1989 Nissan Pickup with an automatic transmission and a D-24 engine is located on the transaxle. The neutral switch will be found where the linkage attaches to the transaxle unit.
