Therefore, I believe that answer No.2 is the best for determining the proper part unless you have a copy of the dealer invoice. The EGR is on the right front corner of the engine, just above the alternator.

The was a mid-year modificatiion that required a change in the EGR Valve. EGR1582 is for vehicles with engine option code XZZ. EGR1589 is for all other engine options. The best way to find out if your vehicle has option code XZZ is to call your Chrysler dealer and give them your VIN number.

There are two types depending on whether your Town and Country has option code XZZ installed or not. Luckily both look the same. I'd describe it as cylinder shaped - a little smaller than a soda can - and it is attached to the left front side of your engine as you look at it. There is a long tube attached to it that goes up to the top of the valve cover (where the PCV valve typically sits). And all of this is just above the alternator as a last point of reference. The EGR Valve bolts directly to the side of the exhaust manifold with 2 bolts (the bottom one is difficult to get out - use a swivel socket). On the top of the EGR valve there is a black plastic electical connector. There's a small red slide lock that you need to slide to the unlock position before you can wiggle the electrical connector off. The only online autoparts place I could find with a picture of it is Rockauto. Go to their website http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/livecatalog.php and search either by 2005 Chrysler or look for part numbers EGV830 (non XZZ) or EGV823 (with option XZZ) and you'll see the picture of it. Might also get lucky and find one on eBay with a picture if you search for these part numbers. Note: Be sure to order the right EGR valve since there are two types - you'll probably need to call the dealer with your VIN # to have them tell you if you have Option XZZ or not. And don't forget to order new gaskets separately as they don't come in the box with the EGR valve. While you have it off, clean the inside of the ports and tubes as they typically build up with carbon over time.
