Alexander Hamilton married Elizabeth Schuyler in December of 1780. Elizabeth was the daughter of General Philip Schuyler and a member of one of the wealthiest families in New York. Not much is known about Elizabeth because she burned all of her correspondence to Hamilton after his death. She was born in 1757 and died in 1854, 50 years after her husband died.
